Le Code d'Athos

Fighting Game | PC | Unity | 8 Months | January 2024 - December 2024

Fight various enemies in order to get stronger in this game based on fencing and ragdoll !
Le Code d'Athos is visually inspired by engraving and etching. It's also my final year project and I had the chance to work on several aspects of the game, such as :

Concept Art

The game takes place in France, in the 17th century. Our biggest inspiration were musketeers and duelists. Each character is associated to a color (eg : Athos & blue, Luis & orange...) and is dressed in a way you can tell their place on the social ladder.

In this way, Athos is recognizable as a young noble, Luis as a typical musketeer that serves as the first adversary, Gildas as the noble and impressive swordsman, and so on.

Character Art

The sprites all share the hatching render style for the shadows for simulate the engraving artstyle.

All the sprites were done on Photoshop and have every body part detached as preparation for the rigging.

Animation & VFX

The animations were entirely done on Unity. Each sprite had the different body parts detached during the drawing process, then reassembled, rigged and skinned on Unity.

The animations for each character consist of :

  • 3 idles for each stance ;

  • short animations meant to warn the player about an upcoming attack ;

  • the actual attacks

The main character only has idle and transitional animations, since the player controls the arm, thus controlling the actual attacks.

I also worked on some VFXs, such as the sword trails and clashes, also done entirely on Unity with the particle system.

Other Works

During this project, I also worked on several tasks, such as :

  • UI art, like health points icons, chapter icons ;

  • Marketing & promotional Art ;

  • providing some assets for the trailer.

I was also in charge of the assets integration in Unity.
